uGet 1.10.4 Released and a bit of Celebration PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 04 March 2014 19:05 | Written by Michael Tunnell

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the latest version of uGet, 1.10.4. We have been able to update uGet in various Repos throughout the Linux community so you should be able to just install or upgrade from your preferred Ditros' supported repository. A few distros are not currently up to date but you can check the status of your preferred distribution by going to the uGet Downloads page and selecting your distro from there for more details.

Before I get to the "What's New" portion of this blog post I wanted to first explain the "bit of Celebration" part of the title. This year marks the 11th Year of uGet, that's right, uGet has been available to the Linux community for over 11 years now and we are not slowing down, we are excited for the future of uGet! If you're excited too then please consider donating to the project. :) (blog post about the donation drive)

Updated on March 5th, 2014:

Earlier today someone asked if we had any screenshots of older versions of uGet and I thought "well that actually might be cool to upload all of the screenshots to the could have I not of thought of that before?" So I did just that, I have uploaded screenshots of multiple versions and when I have time I would like to do more but for now there are screenshots for versions 1.10.4, 1.10.3, 1.7.6, 1.6.0, 1.5.0, 0.8, and 0.5.

Now for the What's New + some info about uGet's future...

What's New in uGet 1.10.4: (Changelog)

  • Added support for Magnet Links via the aria2 Plugin
  • Added GnuTLS support (configure --enable-gnutls)
  • Added new languages & updated existing languages
    ...1.10.3 = 14 Languages, 1.10.4 = 21 Languages & we have more in progress.
  • Added a new "Check for Updates" feature.
  • Added a new "Message Banner" which allows us to provide uGet related info to all uGetters. the Survey & Donation Drive
  • Improved the Help Menu in uGet by adding links to the Documentation (still working on), to submit Feedback & Bug Reports, and more.
  • Improved support for the FlashGot Firefox Addon, including a fix for a Youtube filename bug.
  • Bug Fix: uGet unexpectedly exited with a very large list of urls. (700+)
  • User Survey: we are running a uGet User (uGetter) Survey to learn more about our users, please take some time to fill out the survey.
  • Website Updates: you can find out about a LOT of new updates to the website in this blog post.

Future of the uGet Project:

  • We've already started work on 1.10.5.
  • We are working on a new version & implementation for the uGet Extension for Chromium & Google Chrome. (Google's latest API changes have broken the existing extension but we are working on a fix)
  • We are working on a mobile version of uGet, with uGet for Android.
  • New major version of uGet is in the works which will be uGet 2.x
  • uGet 2.x planned features:
    • Multi-Connection, Mirrors, and more without need for the aria2 Plugin
    • Improvement to category specific configuration settings
    • Improvements for existing file detection
    • Improved support for various methods and events for notifications
    • and much more!

We do not have any plans for the release dates of these "future" goals but we are hoping to devote more time to them which is why we are running the uGet Donation Drive.

That you to all of the uGetters for being a part of the uGet community and if you have anything you'd like to say about this release or blog post please do so in the comments section below...
