[ANSWERED] uget (1.10.3) uses 100% of cpu

If you are using an old version of uGet (1.x.x) then post your question in here. Past topics about older branches of the app will be stored in here as well. Also, might I suggest updating to a recent version of uGet. http://ugetdm.com/downloads

[ANSWERED] uget (1.10.3) uses 100% of cpu

Postby andre33 » Sun Jul 28, 2013 4:26 am

Hi,

uget uses 100% (and more) from my CPU during downloading.

uGet 1.8.2 (stable)

Xubuntu 13.04 64Bit

Linux user-NB 3.9.9-030909-generic #201307031551 SMP Wed Jul 3 19:52:58 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I hope that could be fixed.

Thanks.

EDIT:
I think it is only if I limit the download speed.

Your problem is due to the fact that you likely installed uGet from the Ubuntu Software Center and for some reason the USC refuses to update our app.

You have installed 1.8.2 which was deprecated over a year ago.

We are currently on version 1.10.3 which is the current and officially supported version of uget for Ubuntu 12.04, 12.10 and 13.04 as well as all of the ubuntu derivatives.

Please upgrade your version by going to http://ugetdm.com/downloads

You can install via PPA, DEB or compile from source.

It was not the Problem, "1.10.3 (stable branch)" is now available for ubuntu backports.
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/uget

But uget-gtk is using 105,1% from my CPU...

Do you use default setting? Is it still uses 100% of CPU when you do nothing?
I need more info.

As I said:

I think it is only if I limit the download speed.

The config is default, I created some categories, but it is only if I limit the download speed.

Is there something else you need to know?

are you using the aria2 plugin? if so, please post a screenshot of your settings for the plugin.

Don't limit the download speed and try again.
Maybe it is a issue of libcurl.

I just did some more testing on this and it appears to be a libcurl thing but the fluctuations never got that high for me.

libcurl not limited = 35% - 45% with occasional spike at 50% or drop to 20%.
libcurl with speed limit = 20% - 60% consistently irratic but never past 60%.

aria2 not limited = 2% - 6%
aria2 with speed limit = 2% - 6%

I could not reproduce the 100% CPU usage in Linux Mint with 1.10.3 but there is an obvious overhead difference between libcurl and aria2.

I just test uGet with libcurl in Fedora 19 x86_64.

libcurl not limited or limited: less than 2%.

I could not reproduce the 100% CPU usage in Fedora19 64bit with 1.10.3
