[in Progess] "shutdown when downloads complete" doesn't work

It seems that it doesn't work for me and the problem is annoying me till now.

When I check menu item View -> "Shutdown when downloads complete"
and then after all downloads finished, nothing happend.

Maybe a shutdown script is needed to solve the problem. :?:

Sorryf or the delay in response but two things need to be addressed. You are using a 2 year old version of uGet.... please upgrade to 1.10.3 which can be found at http://ugetdm.com/downloads

-------------------

regarding the shutdown portion...

uGet need permission to shutdown.
In recently Linux system, you must use below command...

this is a special kind of permission setting user ID in file permission.

#chmod o+s

check the man pages

#man chmod

1. Upgrade your version of uGet.
2. Read what I posted above.

Michael, sorry if I am missing something here but in Deb/Ubuntu I cannot find a file or directory called "permission", and you did not specifiy what is getting its permissions changed. .

Code: Select all
sudo find / -name uget
/usr/share/sounds/uget
/usr/share/pixmaps/uget
/usr/share/doc/uget

sudo find / -name uGet
/home/"user"/.config/uGet

I am using 1.10.4 on Mint 16 xfce. Is there an executable file somewhere? What is it called?

Thanks,

Paul

There is not a folder or file it would be done through user groups...but first are you wanting this to be possible always or only occasionally when needed?

Thanks for the very quick response.

My typical usage would be to start a download at around 03:00 local time while I am sleeping so it would be helpful if it shut itself down or suspended when finished. Most of the files I download are Linux .iso files and generally are 1-1.5 G in size so they generally finish in under 20 minutes. I use a satellite ISP with a usage cap and an unmetered period between 02:00 -08:00 but I rise around 05:30 and do some browsing/email. I use my router's WOL signal to wake the computer up at 02:45 and the uGet schedule is green from 03:00 to 05:00 every day. BTW, I am the only user of this system so yes, it should be possible to auto shutdown or suspend always. I would prefer suspend, as poweroff seems to not work on this Intel Atom D2700 mobo.

If it is to be done with users and groups, which ones...I don't see any obvious candidates other than adm (no admin on the system).

ok the "only occasional" use solution is simple but requires manual input which you would be asleep so that wouldn't work. So the solution for long term takes a bit to do...

This feature was implemented when Linux didn't require root for this so I'll need to test some things for a solution that is permanent because the current solution is a manual per occasion fix.

Ok after some testing my first idea to solve this on a permanent level which was to edit the sudoers file to pass the "NOPASSWD" option to "/sbin/poweroff". Unfortunately...this did not work. I don't know when I can devote more time to figuring this out but I will do it as soon as possible.

Thanks again Michael....don't put yourself out on this...I can always set up an "at" job to suspend before the end of my free download period or sooner.

actually I just figured out another problem that breaks the persistence issue that I am fairly sure doesn't have a fix right now.

uGet resets the "shutdown when complete" setting every time the app is restarted so even if the shutdown feature was long term in the distro itself it can't be long term in uGet. Sorry but this is not possible at this time.

Code: Select all
gksu uget-gtk

OR
Code: Select all
gksu -k uget-gtk

are the only options right now to do this which requires manual input of the user password to make it work...which again is not usable for persistence.

I don't have good data to support this but running an internet application as root gives me the shivers. I would prefer to run a one line "at" job as root that simply does "pm-suspend" or "poweroff" even if it is less.convenient.

Thanks for giving the problem some time.

I agree completely...this feature was added to uGet when this was possible without the need for root, unfortunately the setting in the kernel was changed making it not possible without root. I understand why they would be a good thing to do overall because it gives security to something turning off your computer but it does break that feature. :)
