phpBB Forum Default Settings Bug FIXED! PDF Print E-mail

Well we had another Support Fail but this time I am happy to say it was not "my fault". :) I created a forum with phpBB to provide support for users...and unfortunately it seems that phpBB's default forum permissions settings is "Read Only" meaning no one could reply and no one could make a new topic (except me as an admin)

So people were joining and then stuck, THANKS phpBB! Way to consider the only default setting that would instantly break a new install.

Anyway, I fixed the permissions issues and the forum now works like it should have be default...Users can create accounts, make new topics, post replies, make polls, all that good stuff. Even allowing Guests to reply to posts and vote on polls but to create polls or make new posts you will need to register. (this is for a level of spam prevention)

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the latest version of uGet, which is 1.10

We are still in the process of updating the website for the latest download files but if you are using the PPA then you will already receive update notifications for the latest version!

If you are a .DEB or .RPM user of uGet, thank you for your patience while we update the site.

---------------------------------------

Also I'd like to announce that we are now working on some Tutorials for uGet and adding a Support Forum to the site. I was reading some reviews on the Ubuntu Software Centre today and noticed that there were a few people not quite sure how to use the program and a few people who were angry about not being able to contact us for support.

There are a lot of features that uGet has which a few of those are not the easiest to find on your own. Also I admit my mistake in not noticing the error with the existing support page before now but I will get that taken care of THIS WEEKEND...(good thing it is a holiday, :-) )

Have a nice day and happy downloading!

uGet is currently in a difficult situation when it comes to production and development of our project. We are looking to add as many developers even if you can only contribute an hour of work per year, we'll take it! smiley

The founder and only developer of uGet, C.H. Huang, has had to take an unexpected hiatus from the project, he is not leaving the project but is going to be unavailable for some time. So we are looking to find some people willing to fill the void during his absence.

To answer the obvious question of "Why don't you (as in author of this blog post) take over the project?", The reason I don't take over the development portion of the project is because I am not a developer. I am the Web/Graphic Designer as well as Project Manager for uGet but I have almost zero experience with software development. If I could be considered any kind of developer it would be exclusively on the web side of things.

Important Information:

uGet written in C with GTK+, using cURL and libcurl, there is uglib but it still static library.

Requirements:

We only have one requirement, Open Source Advocate. All development made for uGet will be released under an open source license...so if you are wanting some kind of licensing control, thanks but no thanks.

Interested Parties:

Or if you know any developers or communities of developers we could contact, please let us know by also emailing us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
